Braces for Bad Bites

 

Braces are not only designed to straighten teeth, but can also correct misaligned bites. This can aid numerous problems including teeth grinding, headaches, TMJ disorder, abnormal wear of the tooth surface, excess stress on supporting bone or gum tissue, and pain in the face or neck.

The following are signs of a bad bite:

 

1) Top front teeth protrude or are “bucked”
2) Top front teeth cover more than ¼ of the bottom front teeth when back teeth are biting together
3) Top front teeth fit behind the bottom front teeth
4) A weak chin or a prominent chin
5) A space exists between the top and bottom front teeth with the back teeth biting together
6) Crowded, overlapped, misplaced or extra teeth
7) Some teeth don’t meet at all
8) The center-lines of the top and bottom teeth don’t line up
9) If your jaw clicks or pops it might be misaligned
10) You have difficulty chewing
11) Obvious abnormal bite development of any kind
12) Open-mouth breathing could also be a sign
